Swedish Melodic Rock Legends
House of Shakira
Masters of the unique "Melodic Rock with a Twist" sound. From the African rhythms of Lint to the hard-hitting energy of Xit, they have defined Swedish AOR for over three decades.
From "The Station" to Legend Status
Formed in Stockholm in 1991, the band originally went by the moniker "The Station." However, a twist of fate—and a German magazine contest—led them to a new identity. A reader suggested the name House of Shakira, unaware that it referred to a notorious London boutique that secretly operated as a bordello. The band loved the metaphor: a respectable exterior hiding something wild and unexpected inside.
Their debut album, Lint (1997), immediately set them apart from standard AOR clones by incorporating African rhythms and world music elements into melodic hard rock. Over the decades, despite lineup changes, they have maintained a motto of "trying every idea with an open mind." Today, led by lead vocalist Andreas Novak, they continue to release critically acclaimed albums like Radiocarbon and their latest hard-hitter, Xit.
